Our commitment to dark skies.

Starveil works with astronomers, observatories and stargazers to keep the San Andreas sky beautiful.

VeilBlack

Darker satellites.

Every satellite launched since 2023 is coated in VeilBlack, a dark film that reduces sunlight reflected toward the ground. Satellites that launched before VeilBlack are being replaced as they deorbit.3

Partners

The Galileo Observatory.

Starveil provides free Priority service to the Galileo Observatory in the Vinewood Hills, so researchers can share their work with the world in real time.5

“The connection is excellent. We use it mostly to download images from telescopes in other countries.”

Questions.

What is the line of lights in the sky?

Shortly after launch, Starveil satellites travel in a line before they spread out into their final orbits. Many people say it is the most beautiful thing they have ever seen in the sky.

Can I still see the stars?

Yes. Most of them.

Will there be more satellites?

Starveil is licensed for 42,000 satellites. Today there are 6,412.

How do I report a bright satellite?

Report it in the Starveil Sky app. Reports help our engineers understand how beautiful the satellites look from the ground.

  1. Compared with a 2022 test satellite painted white.
  2. On clear nights away from city lights, from locations not under a published pass.
  3. Deorbiting satellites burn up in the upper atmosphere, where they are briefly very visible.
  4. Starveil Sky does not show unlisted objects. Unlisted objects are not Starveil satellites.
  5. Observatory partners agree to schedule observations around published Starveil passes and to review findings about Starveil with Starveil before publication.
